WHAT IS A HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION?

Homestead exemptions are designed to save Texas homeowners money on their annual property tax bill. You may know that every residential homestead qualifies for a $25,000 state-mandated school exemption, lowering the taxable value of the property, but did you know that homeowners who are disabled, or who are 65 or older qualify for an additional state-mandated school exemption of $10,000 And disabled veterans and certain dependents of veterans may qualify for an additiona exemption. Filing for your Homestead Exemption is free!


01 - COMPLETE THE APPLICATION

Visit your local Appraisal District website, and download the Homestead Exemption application. It must be completed between Jan 1st, and April 30th

02 - SUBMIT THE APPLICATION

The address on your drivers license must match the address of your Homestead. Check with your appraisal district for additional requirements.

03 - NO NEED TO RE-APPLY

The Homestead Exemption will remainin place as long as the owners occupy theproperty as their Homestead.
